MARIS brought her MOSH★PIT tour to Brighton Music Hall in Allston on Sunday, Oct. 25, and the biggest room on the run came very close to selling out. There was no traditional opener. Instead, her VIP fans warmed things up with karaoke before the show, which says a lot about the relationship she has with her fans.
That connection carried through the whole set. MARIS has a big stage presence, and she talks between songs more than most artists do. Much of the night leaned on her new EP, with fan favorites like “Salt Water Taffy” and “MARY & I” mixed in. The highlight, as at every MARIS show, was when she stopped the set so everyone could hug themselves and tell themselves, “I love you just the way you fucking are... bitch.” Then she had fans turn to a stranger and say it to them too. It’s silly and sincere at once, and it works.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see her selling out much larger rooms in a few years. Photos below.
